I'm currently roasting with a UFO/GG rig
http://www.rogers6.com/gallery/v/family/coffeestuff/roasting/ufo/),and it's a HUGE improvement
over my air poppers. So far, I've liked everything I've roasted.
The post about roast profile for Monkey blend made me think...after roasting the Sumatra
yesterday, I have to admit -- I couldn't duplicate a roast profile if my life depended on it. I
never did hear the second crack and gave up at about 19 minutes. It looked dark enough to call it
FC or FC+, but how I got it there, I don't know.
Is it me, or is it the Galloping Gourmet, with its 50-degree-increments (and maybe a 50-degree
deadband) on the temperature control?
How can I get better control (without a PID)? I really don't want to mod the internals of the oven.
And, am I getting enough heat? The long roast time makes me wonder if the GG has enough
horsepower. Maybe I need to cut my spacer ring down just a bit?
Or, should I just look for a better oven (Turbo Oven, Sunpentown, etc?)?
