This cold extraction method is not something new.  I first encountered 
it in Ecuador in the mid-70's.  Eateries had a cruet of this extract on 
the table, referred to as "tinta", I think.  If you wanted coffee you 
ordered from the waiter and he or she would deliver a cup into which you 
poured some of the "tinta", to taste, and then it would be topped off 
with boiling water from a tea kettle.  Much better than the local 
instant coffee served on the domestic airlines which was the nastiest 
coffee/beverage-like material I've ever tasted.  Bernard Gerrard
