Topic: roasting Harar 14659 any ideas (4 msgs / 128 lines)

HI,
On my last order I bought a 5 pounder of
Ethiopia Harar Horse lot 14659.
I have roasted it as Tom suggests full city and not entering second crack.
And yes it is a nice coffee but I feel that it is missing something, the
step from beeing an ok coffee to something really nice wich is the normal
describtion of the SM coffees. I cannot really explain what I am missing,
but I will have to experiment some more with this coffee to get the best out
of it. I am roasting it in my Hottop so no fancy profiles will work here.

Claus,
Try loading the beans a minute to a minute and a half after the hottop =
beeps
to load.

Hi DJ,
Interesting idea, maybe I will get into trouble since I always have to
program the HT to 7 and even then often add extra time just to reach second
crack, probably I have a voltage problem here, but I usually put the beans
in the HT about 2 minutes before the beeps signaling the roaster is ready
for the beans. Why do you think that your suggestion could work?

try roasting it lighter, but in the same amount of time as you normally
would.
