Topic: Filtered coffee (3 msgs / 55 lines)

I would like to get your opinions on what filtering
coffee (mainly paper filters) is removing from the
brew. I have been comparing the paper filtering of
brewed coffee to using a gold filter and the paper
certainly takes away from the flavor. If paper removes
most of the oils, how does the coffee have any flavor
at all?
I have read much about vacuum brewing but never tried
it. I bought an old Sunbeam C20 off eBay which uses
cloth filters. Will these filters take away from the
flavor of the coffee, or does the vacuum brewing method
make up for this?

You don't have to use the cloth filters for the Sunbeam vacpots (or at
least the C30); you can use the nylon filter for the 3.5" diameter
presspots. Someone posted this some time back, so check the archives.
