Hi all,
Roasted some Monsooned Elephant last night in a Poppery II, with extension
chord in an effort to extend the roast, etc. I did extend first crack by a
few minutes but wasn't able to get the bean as dark as I wanted. I ended up
with a lovely C+ even though I wanted FC or even Vienna.
My question is: Does elephant roast light? Does anyone have any favorite
uses for this bean?
Incidentally, this morning I pulled a few shots of it straight. It was just
as SM's advertised--a musty bittersweetness (but not dirty or moldy)--and
produced spectacular crema. Also, the beans roast really beautifully,
taking on a hardwood cast. I'm loving this bean already.
T.

Maybe I'll just sit tight with S.O. espressos for a while and really get the
sense of this bean. And leave the blends to the experts!

I really need to read more carefully before I send out queries. Here's what
SM's says about Elephant's roasting character: "It colors in a unique way,
with coffee at 2nd crack with an even caramel-brown color whereas another
coffee at the same degree of roast would be darker in appearance."
