Topic: Green Bean Question? (5 msgs / 94 lines)
1) From: Larry Williams
I got three pounds from a person from Nicaragua as a gift. Each pound
appeared to be from a different farm. Each is very different. The most
interesting pound has a color of *off white*. I roasted a small batch
in the IR2 to City yesterday. The first brew today (too early to drink)
was OK (fruity) but needs to rest more. The roasted beans have a nice
aroma. Another batch was more interesting. The beans have a normal
green appearance, but roasted to different shades of City, and I had to
take it longer in the roast to get the color that I desire. The brew
was undrinkable and the roasted beans have a indescribable aroma -
somewhat fruity with something else??? The third pound has a normal
appearance and roasted successfully. Taste was good. Any comments?
Larry

Larry,
Your 'off white' beans are still in the parchment. Roasting in the
parchment is done in other parts of the world. You will have major
chaff issues with your IR2 when you try to roast them. I think it can
be done, but you may need to clean out the chaff filter during the
roast. You can also plant those beauties and grow some trees!

The batch that I roasted had the normal amount of chaff. Its like these
beans are bleached.

Larry, checkout the "Monsooned" process - they are stored in a somewhat
perilous fashion in order to introduce the beans to a tropical monsoon...
you may find these beans have been through a similar experience...http://www.sweetmarias.com/coffee.indonesia.java.html#java_monsoon_arabicaBest regards,
