After three months (two of which were full of constant unanswered
phone calls and e-mails), I finally hinted I might have to call in
the city's Dept. of Consumer Affairs. Just got an e-mail saying to
"come pick up your fixed espresso machine at 11:30 tomorrow." We
shall see just how "fixed" it is. If it still doesn't work, I'm
either taking it to another shop (in Elk Grove Village) or biting the
bullet and paying for UPS to ship it back to Pasquini. Still fries me
that I'd already paid $250 and the shop cashed the check--Pasquini
would impose its own charge since it's out of warranty.

You're dealing with scoundrels. File the complaint.
Just the same, I hope Livia returns to her dutiful position soon.

Quite an advertisement for Pasquini and the Livia, Sandy. I'm truly sorry
you had to do the comparison shopping on your own nickel. A disparaging Ode
to the Livia could show up on your site and find its way around to different
coffee circles.
Free advertising is a wonderful thing. If I were the manufacturer, you would
have a new espresso machine, sight unseen with unlimited (800) tech support.
Shipping would be on my account, not yours.
Pasquini factory support of the alleged repair shop would terminate. Maybe
that's already the problem but they should suck up.
Three months to repair a simple machine is absolutely unconscionable. (Some
European manufacturers have left Quality Control and R&D up to the customer.
The German Violux was a pretty fancy printing light, and quite a cash cow
for me.)
