Topic: Coffee with Cream & Suga (6 msgs / 127 lines)
1) From: Larry Johnson
I think everyone should drink what they like. I drink all my coffee
black, but who am I to say you're a heathen if you put cream and/or
sugar in yours? Will you be allowed then to tell me what foods I
should like/not like? Which newspaper comic strips I should laugh at?
What music should make me tap my feet? No. Hey; I think people who put
ketchup on hot dogs are cretins, but I keep it to myself.
And if I'm paying for that mocha-hazlenut-cinnamon frappe with my own
money, then I get to decide what goes in it with no snarky comments or
looks from the help.
There is no accounting for taste. There doesn't need to be.
Just my $.02.

Bry,
I am, shall we say, "frugal", and so part of my aversion to using good
coffee as a mixer is similar to my aversion to using $90 tequila for
margueritas.
But in addition, I am a bit of an evangelist...
So, though logically I think people should be free to do what they
want to with their tequila and their coffee, add all the above
together (frugal, evagelistic), and I am resistant to having my coffee
mixed with cream and sugar. I'd like people to at least give my coffee
a chance on its own first. If after that they want to cut it with
cream and sugar, I can live with it.

I hear you on that point. We actually have a sign on our condiment table where we keep all of the cream and sugar that reads, "If you normally add cream and/or sugar to your coffee, please try ours without either first. Our coffee is different, taste it black and we trust that you will notice and agree." Simply put and enough said, and actually I can't tell you how many people come back to the counter and say something to the effect of "Wow, you guys are right, your coffee really is different, why is it different, and how?" And then we get to talk about freshness!!

I am a rum snob - and have a few favorites that I would CRINGE at
someone putting into a rum and coke (I would kill them if they used my
Ron Zacapa...but that is my issue not theirs)...
But if they want a rum and coke and are willing to pay $50.00 for a
bottle of Ron Zacapa...then go for it.
Sigh...
Sean
No Ron Zacapa until Feb...

For my 40th birthday, my wife and several of our friends went to see Asleep
At The Wheel here in Athens at the Georgia Theatre. Ray Benson has the
perfect Texas Swing voice, IMO. Great show.
