This is a multi-part message in MIME format.
I think I remember learning in school ages ago that languages that were =
often chisled into stone (such as Latin) were written left to write as =
that was the most comfortable way to move the chisel, but languages that =
were usually written with a stylus in soft wax or clay (Semitic =
languages such as Hebrew and Aramaic) were written right to left because =
that was the best way to move a stylus.  I don't have a source for this =
other than my very imperfect memory.

If one is right handed and writing with ink, left to right or top to bottom
doesn't smear the ink as well as allowing you to see what you've written.
