Hi,
I just went hunting to find a thread where 2 list members had a very recent
misunderstanding. One made a sarcastic comment, the other took offense and
revealed personal history as a retort. This is of course the danger of a
list like this: you assume familiarity that you might find with a friend,
and you get slapped down when the message doesn't come across as intended,
especially when you don't know about the life situation of another poster.
It's not a pleasure to read this stuff. It's not a pleasure to read
political dissimilarities and the philosophical and dogmatic arguments that
arise. It's not a pleasure to see conflict, to see condescension, to have
to write this type of letter to a list full of adults. Yes I have been
guilty of same, before I am accused of preaching and sinning.
I think it would be best if people tried to keep unpleasant conversation to
themselves, or restrict it to the person you have issue with and them
alone. Maybe my opinion isn't worth a hill of googoomuck, but it's mine and
I love to share. I believe we should try to keep the conversation about
coffee, as there is so much to talk about there that we couldn't possibly
cover it all in detail, much less explore personal failings and differences
of political, religious, or idealogical opinion in every other facet of
life.
I am enjoying this morning's cup of FC+ Sumatra Blue Batak Tarbarita
peaberry on 2 days rest. I directly attribute my success in roasting this
coffee to the things i have learned on this list, from these people on this
list, talking about coffee. If we can keep it to that, I think we will all
have better mornings =)

And I am drinking the last of my Honduran FTO San Marcus Coop - how
did I let my roasted coffee run down so low. I think I get so
worried that I will keep it an extra day or so that I under
roast. Being the only one in the house who drinks it can make it
confusing as so much of this is so new to me.
I can say that I have orders in from 6 people, all who insist on
paying me for the coffee and the time. I am still knew to this, less
than 50 roasts, but to them it is so much better than what they are
used to that they insist on paying me what they would pay at
$$$$$$bucks. While I am not measuring my time, it is a win for me
for it adds to the money toward my next purchase. It also says
something that my friends value my time as much as talent (which is
still quite limited but getting better with every roast.)
I just have to get better at knowing when it is time to roast.
By the way, well put, Floyd, didn't mean to overlook that, but I
can't wait to roast the Sumatra Blue Batak Peaberry at FC to FC+ - I
just still get nervous of roasts in that area of the roasting
scale. One more thing I need to get over for I know I can do it.
Thank you for the well put post.
