Josh,
Your Cory and Silex glass filter rods were probably on the shelf at
Goodwill right next to the shoeboxes full of baseball cards!
Truthfully, I don't know what is wrong with me. I have a Bodum, not a
Yama, vac pot that I bought new at a sale somewhere about 3 years ago
and have never used even once, and of course now I am on eBay bidding
on Cory rods. I have one hand grinder, a Zass grain mill, that I use
for my every-day grinder, but until recently I had five other hand
grinders, three of which, including a Giant Trosser, that I have never
even used. Now, in the past couple weeks, I have zonked out to an even
greater extent and purchased 4 more hand grinders on eBay, including 3
from Germany, and of course I have absolutely no use for any of them.
If that isn't bad enough, I have a refurb Gaggia Espresso espresso
machine, that I bought from Tom and Maria's sale page about a year
ago, that I have never turned on (I am not sure how to use it,
including how to clean it, so each day it is just easier to make
coffee in my moka pot).
Reminds me of a bumper sticker I saw once: "Of all the things I've
lost, I miss my mind the most."

I suffer from the same "affliction". My collecting mania probably
derives from some childhood trauma but I leave rational explanations to
others. I enjoy life and as long as I live, I intend to continue to do
those things that bring me joy and satisfaction and overall if it qualifies
as a pathology, it is, at least, a harmless one.
Happy Roasting
