Last night I roasted using my new Behmor for the first time. It's so =
roast with it!
I roasted 1/4 lb. each of 2 beans:
Costa Rica Pulp Natural - La Candelilla
Guatemala Cup of Excellence #1 - El Injerto
I was aiming for FC+ for the CR, C+ for the Guat. First I roasted the =
What I thought was 2nd crack sounded when I thought I was still in 1st =
1st crack never seemed to stop although it was going for over 2 minutes. =
hit Cool. The beans looked a little light for FC+, but otherwise looked =
I brewed a mug-ful in my Technivorm this morning ... WOW! Just terrific =
all the flavors Tom mentioned in his review. One of the best cups I've =
had. I don't know how much the Behmor's being a drum roaster contributed=
but the flavor was truly unique. It had a great carbony pungency without
overwhelming the many more subtle flavors. I must have nailed FC+. (I =
wasn't just beginner's luck! :) )
Then I roasted the Guat. Again 2nd hit while I thought I was still in =
but maybe it didn't. It sounded the same as with the CR I thought, but =
it was a
full 2 minutes less roast time. The aroma smelled like C+ & the beans =
darkened, like C+. When I pulled the beans & compared to the CR, they =
darker. OTOH, they had more chaff left in the bean slot. So I have no =
this was C+ or not. I haven't tried the Guat. yet.
BTW, I made an "interesting" mistake on the first roast ... I forgot to =
the chaff collector until the roast was in progress! So I just let the =
go. No problem the Dustbuster couldn't fix when I opened the roaster! =
funny thing is there was almost as much chaff left in the roaster from =
roast after removing the chaff collector.
Any idea what's going on with the 1st crack sounds running into 2nd crack=
C+ (?) roast being much darker than the FC+ roast (despite its having =
remaining on the bean)?
A couple of Behmor questions ... sometimes the rotating drum squeeks =
loudly, sometimes not. I all cases it seems to be seated correctly. =
After a roast, the display shows 0's. But it won't accept any buttons =
turn it off first. Does your unit do this?
All in all this roast session was a great experience. I've now got to =
big roast session for Thanksgiving weekend!
