Topic: Cooper 550 thermometer good down to 50 F (2 msgs / 39 lines)
1) From: Floyd Lozano
Just a warning - I use this thermometer (7" stem version sold by SM)
on my grill with the RK drum to monitor temps. Well, I tend to leave
it outside on the grill when I am done, and that hasn't been a problem
until the temperature started to slide south of the minimum 50 degree
marking on the thermometer. After a few nights of that, the
thermometer popped - the dial is wild now, making the thing useless.
The moral is don't leave your only $20 plus shipping critical coffee
roasting tool outside in cold weather ;P I have 2 replacements on the
way, and both will live inside!

I have had my Big Texas, now sold under the CharBroil Name for 4 years, 3 of
those years in a small 8X8 outbuilding not heated and last year completely
outside.
No effect on the thermometer.
Mind you I live in SC but we get many nites during the winter that go to 20
degrees or so. I do use a grill cover.
I have had no experience with the Cooper 550
