Tom, do you have any new Yemens on the way? After Christmas gifts are
roasted up in the coming weeks, I'm going to be running low. Friend
and family alike, They tell me my fresh, homeroast is some of the
best coffee they've ever had. I'll once again be putting the ol'
iRoast 1 through it's paces!
Well, after the trip we definitely have some new things in the
works... but ultimately I feel like the payoff for meeting the
farmers is going to come next season. We will definitely have more
regional Yemen coffees this year, such as Ismaili, Haimi, Harasi,
Sharasi ... but it's still a bit of a crapshoot. I sent off a Behmor
to our main contact there yesterday, because he is trying to roast on
a popcorn popper! Nobody roasts and cups in Yemen, it's a terrible
situation and amazing since it is the first commercial source for
coffee. SM isn't going to change 600 years of tradition, but there
are a few simple things that, along with Stumptown and the importer
we hope to work with, should make the coffees much more dynamic, and
hopefully push them up the the 90 point range.
So the nest new arrivals would come in mid to late Jan. The main
harvest there is actually Oct-Dec so they are still picking coffee in
My massive, massive trip report should be posted later today.
