Topic: Eggstractor for Rocky (4 msgs / 70 lines)
1) From: Gary Raabe
Hello all;
I've seen several posts lately regarding the Rocky grinder, specifically ab=
out getting grounds out and I thought I'd share a little trick I use.
I am the only coffee drinker in my house. I measure my coffee beans one 7gr=
. coffee measure at a time into my Rocky (usually 1 heaping scoop per cup i=
n the french press and often I make a 12oz. press pot so that's two scoops =
of beans). Once when I disassembled the Rocky to clean, I put a small bowl =
under the shoot when starting the cleaning process in order to see how much=
grinds comes out. I was surprised to see almost a whole scoop of grinds ca=
me out. This meant that my first brew of the morning could be almost 50% ye=
sterday's grounds!
I don't know how but I came up with the idea of a small charge of air in th=
e bean hopper would help to blast the trapped grounds out after each grind.=
I experimented with several items. An old coffee can lid did not work. A f=
lexible silicone hot pad had some effect but the texture of it would not al=
low a good seal. Then once at a thrift store with my wife, I saw an "eggstr=
actor" (a plastic contraption to shell hard boiled eggs). It set me back a=
whole $2.00. It works PERFECTLY. I had to cut it down a little, removing =
about a third of the height because my Rocky's home on the kitchen counter =
is half way under the top kitchen cabinets. It was very easy to cut with a =
utility knife.
So, now when I grind my beans my last step before removing the small stainl=
ess bowl from the Rocky shoot is to grab the eggstractor, place it in the b=
ean hopper and give it a small push downward. This gently blasts the loose =
grounds out the shoot and into the stainless bowl.
Just a thought I figured I would share in case there are other people out t=
here that use their Rocky in very small increments like I do.

I have to second the suggestion to use the
Eggstractor. I've tried the Click-Clack lid, but
, to me, the winner is the Eggstractor. These can
usually be found in the 99˘ stores..

I think I got mine at Duane-Reade for about $2
(with an egg slicer), but I remember seeing it in
a 99cents store in Manhattan, but that was a looooong time ago..
