Ah, the irony - to be Italian *(Sicilian, *no less!) descent and not be able
to eat garlic!
I love cooking & baking. For me, having good ingredients with lots of flavor
is the most important thing; plus I take time. Don't ask me why that makes
food taste better, but it does. For me, cooking is like painting - it's
creating art.
My soup today had homemade chicken broth, lots of veggies, lots of flavor,
just no garlic... (oh, and the dogs get the meat - I make their food
homemade, too.. we share..)
At first, it killed me (not having garlic) because I loved it so much. Now
I'm used to it.

Cooking is creating - as much because when I cook I can't exactly the
same thing the same way. I am always tweaking, experimenting,
substituting in a new ingredient. "What will this taste like if I add
this?" is what makes cooking fun to me. I have often wondered how
stifling it must be to professional chefs to have to make the exact
dish over and over again so that people don't complain "This doesn't
taste like I remember it!"
Thanks for mentioning cooking for the dog - it's something I have
toyed with at times (we use very high-quality dog food - but still -
wouldn't our own freshly cooked food be better?) and of course, she
gets a lot of our food anyway!

Amen, Robert. When someone asks me if I like to cook, I tell them I like to
create....a huge difference. I was the eldest of 7 children and did lots of
cooking since I was very young. But cooking to put food on the table is
different than creating food that "addicts" people so much they need MORE!
Take care,
Ann
