Hi, Thanks Mike, John and Steven for your responses. I haven't tried the same beans done with different method. I usually try to do at least one batch if not all the batches to the roast level that Tom suggested as the best roast for the bean. Then I taste it and compare it to Tom's cupping notes of the particular bean. If I have unleashed some of the same flavors then I know that I have done the right thing. If the same bean roasted with GeneCafe at the same roast level has more aroma or flavor? I do not know that. I live in Astoria New York city. Five minutes from my house is Baruir's coffee and I became friendly with the master roaster there. I sometimes go there and watch him roast with his store front commercial Dietrich roaster. I seldom buy green beans from him to compare with his roast but it is hard to tell if is the same roast level since he is very discrete about his roasting and never really tells exactly what roast it is or what kind of blend. When he sells the beans he only specifies it by the country, no details. Anyway Genecafe or not GeneCafe that's the question. Shall I continue with the air and stovetop popper or take the dive for Gene?
