Just returned from a pleasant visit to Mountain Thunder Coffee Plantation
on the Big Island. Got a nice tour of the place, a cup of pretty good
coffee, and access to a much-needed bathroom, the only accessible bathroom
within miles.
MTCP is up Kaloko Rd on Mt Hualalai (the 3rd largest mountain on the
island). We always drive up Kaloko Rd at least once per visit to see the
forest birds (e.g., Apapane, Amakihi, Elepaio, Hawaiian Creeper) and a few
interesting introduced species (e.g., Kalij Pheasant, Yellow-Fronted
Canary), but this was our first visit to MTCP. Got a few pix which I'll
upload if they are any good.
We're here for only a week. Time enough to buy those last-minute
Christmas gifts. Dinner tonight is at Keei - a great little place east of
Captain Cook. Saddle Road and Volcanos NP later this week. I love this
place.
Larry
