Santa (er...my wife, kids, parents, and friends) was good to me this year.
I must have been a very good boy this past year!
My humble hobby inventory grew with the additions of an Aeropress, 8-cup
French Press, thermal carafe, Brett's Christmas Blend coffee (and a Green
Bay Packers coffee travel mug!), and a ginormous coffee mug that says "Bring
on the beans!!!"
This is in addition to my existing inventory of a Cory vacuum brewer, Zazz
Record grinder, Cuisenart whirly grinder (headed to college with my son in
January, a cheap electric burr grinder (saving for a Rocky or equivalent
someday soon), 1-cup French Press, and a drip brewer that needs to be
replaced with a TV soon too. I feel blessed after just getting into the
hobby 9 months ago.
Out of all the gifts, I've really enjoyed the Aeropress the most. It makes
such a smooth cup of coffee! We're spending a few days with my wife''s
family and I found myself pressing cups of Nicaragua Cup of Excellence - La
Esperanza for each of them, lovingly ground in my Zassenhaus Record
grinder. There are 20 of us here and more than half are coffee drinkers, so
it was a gift of love; my arm was very tired after all that grinding and
pressing! Received many complements on the CoE, including my own. It's a
very sweet cup. In just 4 days we're going through about 2/3# of the CoE
(FC), 1/2# of African Highlands WP Decaf (Vienna -- was having trouble
roasting in the very cold weather, but it's turned out to be quite
delicious), and 1/3# of Brazil Organic - Fazenda Jacaranda. Wonderful brews
Perhaps the best part is that my wife (a staunch tea drinker who loves the
aroma, but not the taste of coffe) has begun taking sips of my coffee and
liking it! I'll make a convert out of her yet!!!
We got 6 inches of beautiful snow here in Rockford, IL today. So nice
to sit, sip, and watch in front of a cozy fire. Back to shovelling my own
driveway tomorrow evening. Oh well. At least I can enjoy a nice cup of
Merry Christmas and Happy New Year to all of you,
