Topic: Whoa on the Dino's visits. (10 msgs / 160 lines)
1) From: Bryan Wray
Well, some very unexpected (and quite s*****) news got dropped in my lap today. Dino's has been sold to a new owner. I know for a fact that any and all effort for quality is gone with this sale. New coffee suppliers are already lined up and they are certainly not quality suppliers. Things like cutting the ratio of coffee to water and supplementing coffee with chicory are also going to take place. It's really quite unfortunate to see, but I guess it happens. The exact words of the new owner were, "We are no longer going to serve great coffee, just coffee..." Needless to say, when I heard this I was out... I can't work for a company that calls anything with a blackish-brownish tint in a cup "coffee." So I am off to find a job wherever I can (probably not in coffee, for now) as soon as possible.
I just wanted to let the members of the list who are in Michigan or who had planned to visit Dino's know so that they didn't waste their time. NaDean's is also undergoing similar changes, just not as drastic. It's really disappointing to see so many peoples hard work disappear with one a****le's idea of "good business practices," but like I said... I guess it happens.

Those are the sorts of business decisions that run places into the
ground. In 6 months when the earnings don't live up to the forecasts
the new owner will close it down, take a tax write-off and move on to
the next "killer" opportunity. So sad...

Unfortunately you might be surprised how well so many places focusing on
nothing but the bottom line with primary focus on foo-foo drinks at rock
bottom prices using inferior coffees and the cheapest milk and syrups do at
the bank... Hell I pay almost double over the cheap stuff for my milk! Some
of those drive-ups do exceptionally well for instance. And ever hear of
Charbucks?
The vast majority of consumers don't know quality when it comes to coffee.
It can be much tougher to make a profit focusing on quality. Too many people
just don't care.

The corpse does sell cheap though. Maybe a future opportunity in the
making.

Unfortunately, you are correct Mike. How many times do you se people
buy a low cos / low quality device and have to replace it in a short
period of time? And, they replace the defective device with another one
just like the first.

Oh, that's so sad to hear, Bryan. What jerks.
I hope you won't be in the (all too familiar to me) land of the
jobless for long!

Bummer, Bryan. I sure am happy I was able to drop by Dino's and chat
with you, and sample some excellent espresso, a short time ago.
