Everyone,

I wish to try the 'dark side' as you all so call it and was thinkin=
g of the above mentioned machine as a first. I found a used one for $135. =
Just wondering if it is capable of pulling a good shot of espresso, of whi=
ch I wouldn't know what a good shot is anyway.....

I drink the occasional milk-drink but mostly I FP or manual pourove=
r. Have just been wanting to try the espresso thing...

I can speak on this machine, it's all I have.
The machine is not bad for the price. But it does have some limitations.
#1, Have an excellent grinder. They say this is the most important thing
even if you have the best machine and Illy himself pulling shots.
#2, Gut the portafilter and get the pressurizer out of there, that way
you'll know when you've got the right grind and tamp. Or just buy a
non-pressurized one. I happened to have a broken one laying about when I
learned about the need to do this, so I gutted it and mounted it to an ice
cream spade for a nice solid handle.
#3, always run water between shots until the light goes off. This is so that
the tank is completely full; and then wait for it to heat back up to the
right temp. Kind of like temperature surfing, but the machine doesn't really
have very good controls so its the best you can do.http://coffeegeek.com/forums/espresso/machines/199377On Jan 29, 2008 10:56 AM, Ron Feroni wrote:
