Topic: Message Threads (8 msgs / 139 lines)

Just a note about netiquette--if you're starting a new topic don't reply
to a message--that just puts it into an unrelated thread and you have a
lot of random jumbled-together crap.
Do a 'compose to' and start your own thread. That makes following a
discussion (or dumping a thread) a lot easier.
Some of the long-time posters are as guilty on this as a few of the
newbies. You know who you are.
And I don't want to hear how Gmail or your other favorite reader can
sort this crap out.
Have a day!

Gmail sorts by subject line, so wrong subject line, wrong sort.

Dean's correct! GMail can't clean up someone else's mess!
It's all the OTHER great features that make GMAIL a great value, free, while
drinking fresh roasted fresh brewed coffee...

It should be using message-ids, references, and in-reply-to headers.
That's real threading.

A: because it reverses the logical flow of conversation.
Q: why is top-posting frowned upon?

Well, for those of us who DO use GMail, it threads just fine...
It sorts out the email,
it lets me search the email,
it even lets me ignore email...
   and it's free.
And it's there no matter where I go!
I can trash my computer, but my GMail is there for me.
Like a good coffee...

This is good advice. For some inexplicable reason, it is never
followed. There are many conventions from Usenet and other forums
that have fallen by the wayside, not all deservingly so. I've learned
to relax somewhat about it. For some things, it makes little
difference. For others, you eventually have a hot mess. Shrug.
