Topic: Roasting in 0F tonight! (13 msgs / 263 lines)
1) From: Brett Mason
Well, my roasted stash is dry, the last pot was this morning...
It's 0F outside, but actually feels like -20 which is with wind chill.
Cedar Rapids is currently at the 7th most snow recorded in a season. Three
more inches and we go up to the 4th most snow in a season - and there's two
monthhs of our winter left...
My patio door is frozen shut, with freezing rain from Saturday afternoon,
and now it is truly locked up. I can budge the screen door some - but if I
try, I will buy a new screen door in April.... SO the Patio is out. The
garage is empty only for a few more minutes until Debbie comes home - so
it's front porch roasting.
Kimel peaberry is in the popper, and it is perched just outside the front
door window so I can watch in comfort, and pull at City... I have 4 more
batch3es to go,a nd then we are good for another four-five days...
Keep your supply ready - winter can surprise you! I bet AlGore has good
coffee in the quiet and warmth of his jet plane, which is nowhere around
here to be seen...
Cheers,

Rough going there, Brett. If I could, I'd parachute-drop you some of
the IMV I roasted last Wednesday; it's starting to really hit its
stride. Oh, well. I don't have a properly sized 'chute, and Al says
he's not going that direction anyway. Sorry.

LOL ... I could barely get the beans to first crack - so it's cinamon roast
for the Papua New Guinea Kimel Plantation Peaberry... I do have
1.5lbroasted now, so coffee for the rest of the week are promising...
Now, if you do have a way to drop in - we have a guest room for any of my
coffee friends!

Roasting with my HG/DB is mainly determined by the wind here in Cheyenne...
tonight we're gusting to 35 MPH... But tomorrow night it's supposed to be
pretty calm, 5-10 MPH... Haven't been on the patio for a couple weeks due to
the crud and not wanting to stand outside while sick. So have been using
the Freshroast for a couple weeks... But HG tomorrow night if the wind don
blow.bill

Brett,
I went to college in Omaha (Creighton U) for undergraduate and graduate. I spent six years in Omaha and hated the last
five and a half of it. The combination of hay fever in the summer and miserable winters convinced me that there are
better places to live. My daughter and her family live in Kansas City and they've had a bad time this year also.My
hat's off to people who choose to live in those climates.
Roasting happily in Southern Cal.

Our cold spell is over, so I have been a roasting fool. When it got to
-35 C (without the wind chill) I gave up. By next winter, I hope to have
a Behmor. I'm getting too old for this, Brett.
I actually did one HG/BM roast in a closet in my basement. Ron happened
to be out of town, so I figured the only one inconvenienced by it was
me. I put earplugs in so the smoke detectors wouldn't bother me overmuch ;).
I hope it warms up soon. You sure do get more snow than we do.

Vicki, you are definitely the cold roasting trooper on this list! The
coffee is so worth it!
How's Ron's job / job search doing?
Hugs from the lower 48 Provinces...

The weather was beautiful here in Cheyenne today! hit about 53 as a high,
and no wind to speak of, which is even more of a miracle! Tonight, I
roasted 3 10 oz batches of the last of my Sumatra Blue Batak peaberry...
Using different profiles, got all three where I wanted them with my HG... 2
FC, 1 FC+. It was about 37 degrees when I was roasting, definately the
warmest roasting I've had since December! I definitely enjoyed it!bill

A pleasingly cool 55 here in Athens, GA as I roasted 3/4 lb of Guat
Finca Agua Tibia (FC) for a friend of mine. 'Course you guys up north
will be laughing when I'm trying to roast in 100 degree weather this
summer.
