Topic: Great espresso in Southern California (10 msgs / 167 lines)

Does any one know where I can find great espresso in or around the City of
Orange? I see *$ on every corner, but great espresso doesn't come from a 16
year old kid pushing buttons on a machine.

The best shot I've ever had was at Orange Hills restaurant, just off
Chamberlain, on top of the mountain overlooking the city. I get out there 3
to 4 times a year. Unfortunately, you can't just drop in for an espresso.
Expensive restaurant, with very very good food (not to mention the fantastic
view!).

You could try Kean Coffee in Costa Mesa / Newport (17th and Irvine)
http://www.keancoffee.com/Martin Diedrich, owner, received the SCAA Lifetime Achievement award...
Maybe they can make espresso...

I've actually been there once, it's really good, just a little out of the
way for me. Usually at the times I would be able to drive down there, the
traffic is horrible on the 55.

Neal, I hear you! I spent most my life in SoCal, and almost 1/10th of it on
the 55...
When I was a boy, they put in the 55 freeway. That's when the cut Newport
Blvd. short between McFadden adn Edinger. Prior to that, we could go to the
end of our street (La Loma Dr., Tustin), turn left, and drive the 2-lane to
the beach....
Fastest time Tustin to Newport was 11 minutes when I was young.
Longest day in traffic in SoCal is always 5:00-7:00pm on Halloween.
  Try the 5, 101, 134, 210, 10, 60, 22, 91 or 405 - the parking choices are
truly amazing!
Now I am in the MidWest, and can walk to work in 12 minutes.
Sold my house, built a new one, and drive a Porsche (when there's no snow -
ice - salt - sleet) .
Traffic is now 3 cars and a tractor. THe coffee in my cup is better than
any, and now I have a timeshare in Newport. I still get the sunsets, Trader
Joe's, In-N-Out, Charley's Chili and Tommy's Burgers. I just do these on
vacation...
Please enjoy all these for me, until I get back out there...

  It's cold (3F, -6F WC), but it's a dry cold!

I don't think about going for coffee before I go out, but I've been
meaning to try this place:http://tinyurl.com/2zybbg424 S. Main St., Suite K

I've seen good reviews for them.

Kaffa! has been recommended to me too. Haven't had an opportunity yet to
try it out. Perhaps next month when I head out to Huntington Beach...

This is just down the street from the Main Place Mall and near the hospital. I tried it a couple of years ago
(pre-homeroasting) and I thought it was excellent coffee.
On the other recommendation to stop by Orange Hills Restaurant, their Sunday brunch is one of the best in Orange County.
