Congrats on the Gene Cafe!!
On Monday we had a bunch of people over for a BBQ and got to talking
coffee. I roasted a batch of coffee in the Gene Cafe as a
demonstration. I grabbed half a pound of Columbian something and
started roasting. I'm usually pretty detailed in taking notes, but
this time I spent the time explaining the process, what was happening
in the beans, pointing out first crack, the smells etc. I stopped the
roast just at the beginning of second crack. This was one of my best
roasts. Ground and brewed right as it was cool and everyone was
stunned (including me) on how good it was.
I don't have the experience to be able to describe the various
flavors. It definitely has the flavor I associate with Columbian
coffees but with a hint of flavor high in the back of my nose that I
usually associate with Kona.
The Gene Cafe makes a great demo machine. It's quiet enough to have a
conversation and the glass roasting chamber lets everyone see what's
