Topic: SCAA Conference (again) (3 msgs / 66 lines)
1) From: Brian Zambrano
After several very encouraging emails about the SCAA conference, I bit the
bullet and signed up for the conference and several labs. I'm really really
looking forward to it! Thanks to all who were very encouraging about this.
I'm sure it will be money well spent.
The labs I signed up for are:
- Exploring Heat Transfer in the Roaster - Thermodynamics
- Comparative Cupping
- A Beginner's Introduction to Craft Roasting
- Intermediate Level Craft Roasting
- Hands-on Espresso
If anyone out there is more advanced with their roasting skills, you can
take the Advanced Level Roasting on Saturday which Tom is teaching.
Are there any other home roasters who will be attending and would like to
meet up for dinner sometime between Friday and Sunday, May 2-4?

I'll be helping out with the Intermediate Roasting class on Sunday
AM. All 3 of us that are going (Derek, Josh and I) will be helping a
lot with the Roaster's Guild cuppings ... can't remember what they
are calling it but basically it's a "competition" between all origins
for bragging rights to the "top coffee" (not a very valid competition
but should bring out some good lots anyway). -Tom
PS: just back from Guatemala. Had a lot of trouble trying to get to
the San Jose Ocana farm and ultimately couldn't get there because
locals set up a road block protesting the plan to build a cement
plant in the area. It was a bummer ... then again, I fully understand
why most sane people would not want a cement plant nearby!

Please tell me that it doesn't mean no more Ocana this year. Just means you
didn't get to visit . Right? Cause that cement plant is messing with my
favorite.
