While not in Portland but just the other side of the Columbia River a few
minutes away in Vancouver, WA I "hear" there's a right fine local roaster
that pulls killer shots and has great food for breakfast, lunch and snacks
too. But then I'm a bit prejudiced:-) Owners happen to frequent this List
too... Oh wait, that's me typing!

You must sample the Ohana at Mike's place. Stumptown is a must too.

I was born in Portland Oregon, raised in Vancouver Washington. I know Mike
and visited his place. There is no one and I repeat "No other serious coffee
place" in Vancouver Washington.
Mike's cafe is not to be missed. I wish I did not live 50 miles away. Why
make coffee at home if Mike is close by. If I pull a shot that comes close
to Mike regular shot, I stop what I'm doing and face the West,(Mikes shop)
then I bow. I wish he would teach a barista class.
Enough said, I need coffee.
