Topic: Decaf Suggestions? (9 msgs / 183 lines)
1) From: Lynne
I need to order some decaf (my stress level never seems to go down, and I
really need to try to get somewhat less agitated). All of the decafs that SM
offers that I tried have been fantastic - a sample pack would be nice, but I
still need to save the bucks, so I'm thinking ordering a larger amt of one
variety to save money.
Roasting in the IR2, and want to avoid acidity (stomach doesn't need any
more!), love caramelly or chocolatey types - heck, I loved just about every
one of SM's offerings...
Just thought it would be good to hear others' experiences with the current
decaf offerings - what do you guys like?

Lynne,
My current favorite is the Brazil Moreninha Formosa WP Decaf, in fact,
I just ordered 10 lbs of it, something I have never done before. This
is the coffee am enjoying at the moment. It is outstanding.
I also love the Papua New Guinea Kimel WP Decaf. Maybe I'll roast
some of that tonight.... Maybe I'm out of it, I better check when I
get home.
I think both will give you the carmel/chocolate yummy mouth feel you
are looking for.
Let us know what you decide.
Good luck,
Bonnie P.

Here, here! on a sampler pack of decaf! My SO likes a 50/50 mix of
decaf/full-octane. I'd be really at a loss to pinpoint a decaf for him.

Lynne,
I think you'd really like the Panama Carmen Estate and the Guatemala
Huehuetenango. The Panama especially is a favorite here at the moment. I
find it incredibly sweet and nutty with a hint of milk chocolate. I
alternate between one of those and either the African Highlands or Sidamo.

I roast a lot of decaf and have really enjoyed the Sumatra Tapanuli. It's
mellow, rustic at FC to FC+. The Sumatra Lintong Nihuta is tasty, too, along
the same lines. The Kenya AA Auction Lot was absolutely
fantastic--especially when roasted at a FC to bring out more caramel. I'm
drinking Las Ranas right now, and it's tasty, but it hasn't been a
grab-me-by-the-taste-buds-and-shake-me-'til-I-swoon sort of affair (like the
Kenya was).

I like the Las Ranas, and the others that have been
mentioned. However, one decaf I keep coming back to
is the Komodo Blend.

Lynne,
I roast decaff mainly for friends and dinner parties. I don't go through
decaf very quickly, but I bought some donkey espresso from Tom. I don't
drink espresso yet, and I don't use that for espresso, but it's still an
amazing coffee. I find it very chocolatey and delicious. I don't know if
it's an everyday coffee or not, but I really enjoy having it.

If they still have them, (in order of my preference) decaf Guatemala
Huehuetenango, El Salvador Las Ranas, Brazil Fazenda Ipanema or Mexico
Esmeralda. Sulawesi Toraja and Costa Rica peaberry were also
terrific, IIRC.
