Topic: OT: List stuff (9 msgs / 134 lines)
1) From: Bob Brashear
I am getting stuff from some people on the list here in my regular
inbox. These messages seem to be intended for a private audience. Don't
want to get involved in a private conversation. My mother raised me to
be polite. :)

I have noticed the same thing recently. T-Bird is smart enough to
filter those messages that are to the list from those that are directly
sent to you even if labeled [Homeroast]. So if someone sends a message
to the list and to you, you will receive 2 messages. Conversely, if
they send an off list message their email program thinks thy also should
send it to all of the other people who thy have communicated directly
with as long as the subject line containes [Homeroast] Except the
Homeroast mailing list. I have seen this with other lists... I did not
bother to see which email program was doing it this time though.
Someone is washing their used coffee filters in public so to speak.

What I can't figure out - I clicked on reply to Jomiller, (was careful to do
that, but didn't check the to: section), yet not only did it also get sent
to the list, but to Bob??? How weird is THAT?

Everyone be careful about CC and BCC. In T-bird, it's real obvious in
the address line. Don't know about web mail and outlook or other
applications.
What's weirder is that the messages are NOT repeated on the list output
that I get. T-bird filters list messages to a list inbox. I'm getting
the private mail in my regular inbox, nothing to the liist inbox.

Well, I don't use Thunderbird, just gmail. Don't know enough (translate:
any)
about computers to figure this out - but I'm checking the To, Cc, and Bcc
from now
on before I click send.

Also using T-Bird and the private ones go into the IN box, even though
they have been marked [Homeroast]. The e-mail originating from the
listserver is filtered to the Homeroast folder. This is the normal
behavior when the sending email program decides to let everyone in on
the secret.
I will pay attention to the next one. See where it is from and what
email program and source.

This is NOT a T-Bird problem...

someone is trying to spam perhaps?
just be careful with any mail you send to be sure it's to the SENDER and
not to ALL ie the LIST before you hit send... been there done that before...
t bird is generally good about it but if someone is manipulating the sub
lines it can confuse any e mail program...... be wary when you send e
mail

I think it's a change in the reply-to headers the list software
generates, and how folks' mail programs deal with them. I noticed the
change after we moved to the new list server.
