Topic: Any tips for Gaggia Carezza? (5 msgs / 104 lines)
1) From: Seth Grandeau
My espresso maker showed up this morning. I'll be unpacking it and setting
it up tonight (stupid work getting in the way!). Any suggestions or tips
for any of the Gaggia owners out there?
Thanks in advance.

Hi Seth,
A proud owner of a Gaggia Espresso here. I have a link
on general Gaggia maintenance, but that's back @ home;
will send it to you when I get back.
First things first: after the obvious clean the tank
routine, _prime_ your pump--immediately after turning
on. Priming simply means, press the 'brew' button, and
let it suck water in. Prime it before it even heats up
:)
Next is probably the brewing, which requires a bit of
temperature 'surfing'. The method that I like is to
let my primed machine warm up for 10 minutes or so,
then I press the brew button to let the water come out
for a bit. After letting a bit of water out, I press
the 'steam' switch for 8 seconds, and flick the
'steam' switch off again; this will increase the
temperature a little bit for my machine. Around this
time, I fire off my grinder, dose, and tamp. I then
pull the shot.
Notice that each machine's thermostat may have a
slightly different temperature ranges, but I heard
that they mostly run on the cooler side, thus the
flicking of the steam switch.
Hope this helps a bit!
