Topic: Almost getting to feel proficient roasting... (3 msgs / 72 lines)

Just finished 11 batches in just a hair over 3 hours. Almost getting to feel
like I know what I'm doing! All batches run manually and really getting a
good feel for this puppy. Not satisfied with the way the automation controls
system working yet. Or rather haven't quite figured out how to translate
what I want it to do into a language it fully understands. Or rather I fully
understand "how" this control system behaves. You get the idea. No biggy,
got quite a bit of the bag labeling and roasted bean weighing and bag
filling done while "manually" roasting anyway! Just a matter of checking the
profile progression periodically and especially at predetermined check point
times and temps. This USRC 3k sucker is sweet! One load dumps to cooling bin
just charge another and away you go. Finally sinking into this thick skull
you virtually never need 100% flame, or risk roast run away! Usually running
50 to 80% flame depending on where in the profile and batch size combined
with using 60 to 100% fan speed for ramp control.
I'm quite certain those who've gone "all in" home roasting and gotten the
USRC .5k are just as thrilled with their little "brothers":-)
Now back to labeling, weighing, bagging, heat sealing, bag vac'ing so I can
go home!

Mike,
How long does a full batch take to fully cool without any intervention, just
letting the machine do its thing?
Thanks.

Baby brother is doing well. I just finished some coffee that wasn't so good
as my taster was messed up because of a bad bad cold. This morning I began
enjoying the taste of coffee again. I enjoyed some of the new Panama from
SM. Tomorrow I'll have Liberica again.
