Topic: a reminder why SM rocks! (11 msgs / 196 lines)
1) From: Bill
If we needed a reminder why SM rocks... I whined on Monday about how I tried
to order some of their roasted Sidamo, but they were sold out. I thought I
hit the jackpot later that evening, i was able to put some in my shopping
cart... then got an email explaining that their cart had reset for next
week, a Honduran coffee. I was bummed, and I sent an email back lamenting
that I couldn't get any... So Derek said, "I'll see what I can do..." he
scrounged a pound from somewhere and sent it out.
Again, a reminder why I love to be affiliated with these great folks.

Preach it brother! Maria sent me a filled out obsolete page link at
some point to allow me to order the last of some stock of Sidamo once
(funny, same bean). I ended up with multiple odd sized bags they put
together because the cart system said they were out. They go the
extra mile and then some.

I have had several instances of way-above-and-beyond customer support
from Sweet Marias.
Nobody is like them!

Well, I'd be a lot happier with SweetMarias if they hadn't gone that
~2400 miles from Columbus, OH to Oakland!!!
Oh well, I still get ALL my beans from Tom & Maria.

Westerville, OH about 18 miles from the ORIGINAL location of SweetMarias.

OH would've been great for me. It's a long haul from ANYWHERE in CA to
here in Buffalo, NY.
Maybe in the future we can get a "Sweet Marias East" and a "Sweet Marias
West".
Here's to hoping,

Dave, in your case, they went 2,400 extra miles....

I know the shipping is an issue for many since we are in CA, but I
want to point out a huge advantage: ideal climate for storing green
coffee. In Ohio I was always fighting the conditions, trying to
maintain moderate humidity in the shop. It was impossible and I could
taste coffees fading in the cup, becoming baggy, sooner than I
thought they should. We battled this mainly by keeping our stock in
the shop as low as possible and turning around the coffees quickly.
But out here we have one of the most ideal coffee storage climates.
It's ironic since so much coffee is held in places like Houston, New
Jersey, New Orleans (not so much now) which are all HORRIBLE for
coffee sitting in jute bags with no climate/humidity controls. So the
idea of shipping from another point would be tricky because of losing
this benefit to the cup quality of the coffee...

Hi Tom,
<Snip>
I hadn't thought of that, being new to green coffee I'm just starting to
read all sorts of interesting stuff on this list about green coffee
storage.
<Snip>
I'm sure for a lot of us that wouldn't be ideal either. I would rather
have more green coffee to choose from then have a quicker shipping
turnaround. Sacrificing cup quality is not a good trade off for
expedited shipping either.
I guess the only alternative would be a totally climate controlled
warehouse which is probably impractical because of the amount of coffee
you're stocking.
After all is said and done, the shipping wait is well worth it. The
coffee is always top notch!

Just place your orders early and you don't have to worry about how long it
takes to ship. The only one I was checking UPS for every day was the first
order. Now I have a stash. :)

Generally only takes 3 or 4 days to get a UPS order to Cheyenne from
Oakland. I have a stash. And I still check the location of my order ever
day. go figure.bill
