Topic: My brother's coffee (4 msgs / 128 lines)
1) From: Vicki Smith
This morning I am drinking Panama Boquete - Lerida Estate Peaberry,
roasted Sunday to City+ in my HG/Bread Machine rig.
It is definitely my brother's coffee, by which I mean it is a bright
coffee big on finish/aftertaste and not particularly big on body/mouth
feel. It is also, apparently, my bosses coffee. I roasted it for her
after she told me how much she enjoyed some (unknown) Kona she had while
on holiday in Hawaii a few weeks ago and she really enjoys this cup as well.
It's taken me a few years to figure out how all those numbers in the
left hand column of Tom's reviews translate into *my* enjoyment of the
cup. I'm guessing, that like most folks, I started out looking at the
total and thinking that told the story. Over time I have come to realize
that there are no bad coffees on the SM list and that an 87 with a
profile I like will taste better to me than a 90 with one that is, well,
my brothers coffee.
In any case, I am enjoying the coffee this morning. I know I did well
with the roasting, resting, and brewing and it is a very good example of
what this coffee should be. If I were ever served a cup this good in a
restaurant after a meal, I'd be all smiles, but at the end of the day
(or at 5 in the AM), it's not really my coffee.
Just saying...

If you ever try a Panama again you might go for one that's not all "Cats"
but rather Typica and or Bourbon. To my taste a better balanced smoother
richer with more body and mouth feel type of Panama. (I'm especially not
found of Catuai varietal Panamas generally speaking)

Indeed. I've been craving a big, rich malt sweet miel for much too long.
