Topic: Technivorm Heaven! (7 msgs / 287 lines)
1) From: Cheryl Alexander
I know I'm preaching to the choir, but if anyone is on the fence about buying a Technivorm, I say hesitate no more! After my stupid Presto Scandinavia bit the dust rather suddenly a few weeks ago I toiled over whether to spend the money on a Techivorm. (Normally I used a French press every morning, but sometimes you just need to use an automatic coffee maker.) I waffled for about a week, and finally bought a Technivorm.
First try I used a paper filter, and thought "oboy I spent a wad for nothing." The next time I used my Gold filter and Yowza! What a difference! I used Tom's method of closing the filter for one or two minutes first, and then opening it up halfway. Oh my goodness, the coffee is at least as good---if not better---than my standard French press method! And it's easier! I'm using the Technivorm every morning now, and I'm not looking back. I think it is going to be worth every penny!

Thanks Cheryl,
Great post.
I do want a Technivorm but with the price of beans, roaster (even though it
is a poppery) and a new Maestro Plus grinder I need to earn more $ before I
can make the jump. This is why I asked about other alternatives in an
earlier note.

Opa sings bass. When I use my TechniVorm to brew a 16oz Steinway, it can be
fairly labor intensive.
Eschew obfuscation like "You can't brew less than a full pot with a
TechniVorm," and "the TV brews at the correct 200°F."
With some attention to detail, *You* can brew at 200°F with a TechniVorm,=
 in
spite of the fact that the TV only dispenses 200°F water. Everything
downstream of the water distribution is At Least 130° Colder.
Wonderful hallucination how that could happen. It signals the onset of
dementia.
Cheers, Mabuhay -RayO, aka Opa!

I love my Technivorm, but I also love my AeroPress for single cups of great
coffee! If you don't want to make a pot, I suggest the AeroPress.

Moving, even relocating less than one mile, has proven to be the most
obnoxious, detestable exercise. Simplify, simplify, simplify, is the name of
the game. I hate moving.
Somehow, my stash got simplified to the tune of untouched Fivers of a neat
Brazilian and the Liquid Amber blend. Not to worry- the Costa Rica Naranjo
Caracol peaberry does a wonderful C+ double.
Oh, pain- I roasted some last Sunday, now it's a no-show. Aha- Found It!
Last place I looked. I still hate moving.
A Vietnamese coffee filter, 48oz presspot- the only competition for the
TechniVorm, a Capresso tombstone espresso thingy came along- the latter two
being flexible enough to handle many different brewing styles.
Everything hinges on the BUFF grinder (the initial B stands for "big") but
size and weight have been averted. It was >< {this close) to being a
Mahlkönig VTA6S.
Not. They're proud of it. Burrs are >$300!
Thanks to miKe, he steered me towards an eBay Mazzer Major. Sight unseen, I
bought a set of burrs ($60) for a Major, then had to endure some tricky
snipers.
Beat the snipers. I gave 'em a stick of my new prototype chewing gum. eBay
and PayPal too, now that they filched me out of $15.49 on some vanilla
beans.
Cheap lesson, and they're riding the Archimedes Spiral now.
My artist daughter and her husband often drive up PCH from Burbank to
sketch, paint and photograph the scenery around San Francisco. Edith says
she'll pick up an R2D2 grinder, as Mahlkönig (San Mateo?) calls it, when I
open an espresso/ jazz/ art/ hobby shop.
They'll sooner be ice skating in Hell, kiddo. If I get any more things, I'll
have to start a flea market.
Cheers, Mabuhay -RayO, aka Opa!
