Topic: virtuoso grinder settings (8 msgs / 192 lines)
1) From: John and Emma
Those who have or are familiar with the Baratza Virtuoso.
What has been your experience as to the best settings for a French Press,
Moka Pot and Yama Vacuum Brewer?
I know there will be some personal opinion involved and also some
differences based on bean and roast. I am looking for good starting points
based on other peoples experience and then fine tuning from there.
Thanks all.

Start in the middle for all three. Adjust from there. In my experience, 20
gets you a tiny bit of sludge in the bottom of the cup from the press (which
I think is normal), won't stall a vacuum brewer (at least not a Cory or a
Cona with their glass rod filters) and the Moka pot doesn't seem to care
(might have a tad of solids in the last sip).

Baratza anticipated you. There are Icons around the lip at the top of the
grinder.
Learn the procedure to reset the Grind Adjustment Ring if the grind seems
too coarse or too fine at the Turkish end of the scale. Otherwise, follow
the sage advice you will receive.

Model 585, Serial No. 010800, bought as refurbished from Baratza about three
months ago, does not seem to have any such icons. 0 is fine, 40 is coarse.
20 is a good starting place. Manual tells how to reset zero.

I found the same. No icons on my Virtuoso either.
The manual does mention ranges for each brewing style but was wondering if
people out there had fine tuned it enough where they had precise settings? I
like the idea of starting in the middle.
Thanks
John

Do I have an older Viruoso? Or newer? There are no icons on mine...

Model & serial numbers? I think mine is the improved version in that it has
non static (brown) coating on drawer...but that could be easily changed.

Oops!
My only connection with Virtuoso burrs was when I installed a set in the
Maestro Plus I had given to a friend.
Naturally, in the SMP, there were icons around the top lip of the grinder.
