Topic: Alpenroast update (31 lines)

An update...
Swissmar called me this morning and now state that they are in the process
of setting up a service operation. It is not ready yet. They stated that
they intend to firmly support their products. I wonder what changed
overnight?
They suggested I ship my roaster to their NY facility for evaluation and
possible repair. When I asked what would happen if they decided it was not
repairable, they said they would exchange it for a new one at about 30% of
list price. I decided that was almost acceptable, but asked if they would
just sell me a board and let me change it. That way I would not be out of
a roaster for the duration. They are checking into it.
So there is hope. They really seem like they want to help, but simply are
not set up to fix their product. That was fine in the early days when
everything was under warranty and was simply replaced. But as the machines
aged, they perhaps didn't get set up to repair machines as fast as they
should have.
