Topic: "Topics" test failed... (4 msgs / 82 lines)
1) From: Tom & Maria - Sweet Maria's Coffee
I'm sorry to say that the test for Topic filtering failed. When we
activated any type of filter on the test account, no mail was
delivered. I wil do more research on this later, because obviously it
would be a great thing for the list. Until then, we have been
moderating the list so delivery might be delayed sometimes.

Dear Tom,

Sorry this is taking your time. I really do appreciate and benefit from the on-topic stuff and thank you for your efforts to clean up the mess.

Even if you get filtering to work it can be tricky,
because you want to filter things like "OT", but not
things like ROT or rotate or ROTATE. You also have to
allow for what I just saw someone use a minute ago
"OT:"

Solutions are:
1. Filter by subject only, & write a little expression that looks for
OT only in the first 2 chacters of the subject line minus Re and Re:
and blank spaces. This way you will only grab messages that really
are labeled as OT in the subject.
2. People can use filters in outlook, google, and most other mail
programs to filter by subject and move / delete unwanted messages.
3. You could setup a seperate mailing list for off topic
conversations, but that seems unnecessary with a list that is no
larger than this one. We have it setup like this with out dog feeding
lists, rawfeeding and rawchat, but there are around 10,000 people on
rawfeeding.
