Topic: Understanding Varietal Differences (3 msgs / 63 lines)
1) From: Edward Bourgeois
I live in an apple growing area. Many varieties are grown and it's
rather easy to taste and learn the differences. There's a big
difference between a Baldwin and a Macintosh and a Red Delicious etc.
Then there are the more subtle differences of a single variety grown
in different soils and climate conditions. With coffee I'm starting to
understand some of the obvious differences between say a Gesha and a
Pacamara. And the differences in these grown in different areas and
conditions. Does anyone know of a good description of general varietal
differences? Mostly I find info on yields and resistances.

The best thing you can do is read Tom's descriptions.
However there is a published SCAA 'coffee wheel' that cover flavors and
nuances.

I've seen things you people wouldn't believe.
Attack ships on fire off the shoulder of Orion.
I watched C-beams glitter in the dark near the Tannhauser gate.
All those moments will be lost in time, like tears in rain.

I can't tell much about the subtle differences when I drink coffee.
But now I want to make a trip to the apple farms in Western MA!! (well.. not
technically
*now*, because I wouldn't even get to see a blossom.. but you know what I
mean..)
