I have a question:
My stove is a glass top electric do I need to get the wire for under a
Vac brewer for use with this type of stove?
thanks all!

Dennis,
The wire trive came with the Yama I got for Christmas. We have the same
stove top as you and we use the wire trivet.

I have a glass top range and use a wire under my Yama, in fact I use the
thicker wire that comes with a Chemex. I've never tried placing it directly
on the surface... hummm.... if the wife isn't looking I might give it a try.
Three posts in three days, I guess I'm out of lurk mode.

so the wire will come with the Yama? if I order it from SM's? can I get
conformation from some one who has bought theirs from SM's? I don't
want to spend more to get the chemex wire if I don't need to.
thanks again!

I purchased the Yama 8 cup from SMs and it does come with the wire. I also
have a smooth top electric and have been using it without the wire with no
ill effects.

You can make the wire trivet gizmo from bailing wire if you want to,
there is no magic in it. The original purpose of the wire is to prevent
the electric heating element from fusing to the glass pot. You really
need them with the old style cal-rod elements and the coiled nichrome
wire hot plates.
If the archive were actually capable of proper searching you could look
up the previous 10,000+ words on this topic....
If you get your hands on the instructions for the Cory vac pot that came
with the two burner hot plate it will explain what the thing is for.
