Roasted yesterday before the tornado sirens and storms blew thru....
  (our
response? we went out to dinner!)
Yeah... we had those sirens too, I was in the garage roasting... And then
come to find out, a tornado did touch down about 10 miles from my house.
But then again... if the tornado would have killed me, I can't think of a better
way to go!
(BTW, look at me being all responsible with my OT-ness... go me)

Yeeowch, Bryan! Glad to hear you're okay. Closest I've come to a
twister is an F1 (originally ruled a "microburst") sweeping down
Irving Park Rd. past my office window in 1992. Got inside my car just
as it had started swirling up from the ground (I saw a guy holding on
to a street sign post and nearly swept off his feet, and the front end
of my car was bouncing); when the eye came through I parked, and ran
inside the building. By the time I reached my 4th floor office, there
was garbage flying past the windows. Miraculously, all I lost was an
attic window at home; a friend in a downtown highrise lost a huge
windowpane--he was still picking glass out of his dictionary (which
had been on a stand) a few days later. My housekeeper had been
driving my son up Green Bay Rd. in Wilmette to a learning assistance
appointment when she saw a wall of dirt bearing down on her a mile
north--she pulled a U-ey and they made it home just as the funnel
retracted (the attic window may have been earlier high-wind damage).
Am in Wheeling, IL tonight at a hotel with my hubby (he has a doctors'
workgroup meeting). We are on Milwaukee Ave., which parallels the
DesPlaines River. The river has spilled its banks (the forest
preserve signs, normally on dry land by the picnic area, are sticking
up out of the water, which has submerged about the bottom 2' of the
signposts). Fortunately, the hotel is on a rise (as is the parking
lot), and we're nine stories up; there is a berm between us and the
river. Was supposed to go to Madison, Wi to co-host an open mic
tomorrow night, but my singing partner told me to stay home because
they're expecting measurable snow up there and he expects attendance
to be way off and the Interstates to be treacherous driving. I love
April in the Midwest.....NOT!
