Topic: Peaches ? (5 msgs / 113 lines)
1) From: Brett Mason
I roasted 1.5lb Rwanda Gkongoro to City, maybe City +, in my BBQ / Drum.
Pulled it, and cooled it on the back patio using my concrete heat-sink
technology.
After 10 minutes, put it into the Mason Jar, latched it, and started the
rest.
After one hour rest, I opened the jar to see if I could detect the mandarin
or the sweet-and-sour notes...
Nope.
But strong and clear was the smell of canned peaches. Amazing.
Pulled a shot on the oscar, and sure enough...
Peaches.
Somebody let me know - did you note the peaches too?
Regards,
Brett

Man, the anticipation... My order of Rwanda Gkongoro should arrive later
this week... I only ordered 1 lb to try it out. I sure hope I nail the
roast. I'm still a bit out of control with my breadmachine roaster... Not
too hard to determine 1st and 2nd cracks, but any sort of control between
the two points... hit and miss so far.
I like canned peaches! Can't wait!

Well, I must report that I'm not liking this coffee (Rwanda Gkongoro
Nyarusiza) . Either I did a poor job with the roast (likely), or possibly I
just don't like such a bright, citrus coffee. Prior to homeroasting, we've
enjoyed mainly Sumatran coffee from a local commercial roaster.
I wonder if there is a progression of coffees that I could try, that
wouldn't come on so strong as this one? This one strikes me as lemonade w/o
sugar.
I've gone thru an eight pound sampler from SweetMarias, and looking back on
it, mostly enjoyed the milder, sweeter ones, versus the bright ones.
But I'd like to branch out to other coffees besides just the Indonesian
ones. Any suggestions?

5) From: Tom & Maria - Sweet Maria's Coffee
It's our "Roastmaster" coffee this week, and really, really nice cup.
It might be that it's too bright, especially coming off Sumatras, but
you can moderate that brightness alot with either a longer roast,
and/or a bit darker. More rest time after roasting would help too...
