Topic: Coffee is Comming (8 msgs / 182 lines)
1) From: Jamie Dolan
Hi all,
I've just about used up the last of my other coffee I had here that I
purchased before I found out about SM. I just placed my order from
Tom.
I Ordered:
1 Qishr Tea
20 pounds Yemen Mokha Mattari
10 pounds Yemen Mokha Sana'ani
10 pounds Yemen Mokha Sharasi
10 pounds Brazil Daterra Farms Yellow Bourbon
20 pounds Colombia Huila Valencia
10 Mexico Organic Dry-Process Nayarit Rustico
I am really looking forward to the Yemem. I am currently am finishing
a bit of a Brazil Sweet Yellow that I really enjoy.
Despite having the Iroast sitting on my counter, I have been doing
most of the roasts out in the RK drumm.
It has finally warmed up here. You may remember the photos I shared
back in January of the night we roasted with the RK when it was 14
below zero.
With the warmer weather, the coffee does not cool nearly as quickly.
(no snow banks around to set the bowls full of hot beans into) Today,
I purchased a 5 gallon bucket and a over sized flat bottom stainless
steel bowl. The bowl is a pretty nice fit to the top of the bucket,
just needs some silicone. I plan to put the bowl onto the drill press
and drill a series of small holes into it. Then I am going to figure
out hot to attach a vacuum to the bowl. So hopefully in the near
future, I will have a nice cooling setup.
That's all, I am excited about the new stash that is on it way and
wanted to share.
The comments and feedback on this list were useful in making my selections.
Thanks.
Jamie

Jamie,
You have a great shipment heading your way...I can certainly understand your
excitement.
Which do you plan on roasting first?
Not sure why you only ordered enough for a day or two... maybe it will last
you a little longer :o)

I think I am going to head for the Yemen Mokha Mattari, I love the
chocolate notes to the Yemen coffees and from the descriptions, the
Mattari sounds like it will have a fair amount of these flavors to it.

I've been IRoasting this morning till I get my new cooling device made
for the RK drumm. I forgot how small the batches are on the IRoast.
We go through way too much coffee. The Iroast is good to me thought
and has been doing well despite being "slightly" overused!
I have 2 family members and a friend out of state that I roast for and
ship a couple of pounds at a time to, thats my Iroasting gets to time
consuming! I get endless praise from everyone that tries my coffee.
My friend shares his coffee beans I send him with a group of big city
medical doctors and they all swear it is the best highest caffine
coffee they have ever had! I'd think that there would be good coffee
in Augusta... but I guess my RK / Iroast coffee is better!

Wow, I finally got my stash under 30 lbs (not counting 5 Lbs of
Decaf). I saw you roast for yourself and two others. I roast for
myself, my wife, and others (as gifts) but even 30 lbs lasts me too
long. How long will this new stash last you?

Hello;
I think it added up to an 80 pound stash. :-) Overall I am
estimating it will last around 6 months. Althought, I may treasure
some of the yemen and make it last for the year untill the 08-09 crop,
since I really enjoy yemen.
I've gone through about 12 pounds a month so far this year, but my
brother had a number of pounds in addition to that amount, so I think
I am really going to be using up in the 15 pound a month range.
I make my double shots with about 18 grams, and normally pull 2 double
shots at once, I do that between 1 and 5 times a day for 2 of us. So
I use as much as around 6 ounces a day for just the 2 of us.
A small cafe owner that I know expressed intrested in my coffee, but I
am not sure that they will be willing or able to afford to by top
quality beans! Maybe they will buy some beans from me and offer a
premium cup, then I will use even more beans!
Any of you roast and sell to a small cafe? How do you price your beans?
:-)
Jamie
p.s. Most of the time I have been roasting to a light cinnamon / light
city roast. I took a couple batches of sweet yellow Brazilian just
into second crack last night and It had a really good flavor for
cappuccino.
