I've gotten in touch with a few folks on the list in the Washington DC
area, but I thought I'd cast a wider net. A couple of us coffee
nuts/homeroasters have been getting together semi-frequently to cup
coffee samples, talk coffee and generally enjoy each others' company.
Drop me a line or post here if you are interested in this idea, or would
like more information. I do not claim to be a master cupper in any
sense of the word, but I've certainly been busy roasting and cupping
samples lately. Cupping always works better with a group in my view,
because it's so easy to miss something, or to lack the vocabulary to
rightly describe what I'm tasting.
Take care, and I look forward to chatting or meeting up with more people
from the DC area.

Hi Chad,
I'm in DC pretty regularly, so I'd be interested in knowing when and where
you're going to meet, on the off chance that I'm in town. So, please add my
email (mirrera at Comcast.net) to your list.
I roast and drink a lot of coffee, but when it comes to cupping, I'm a
neophyte.
Thanks,
-Mike

Thanks for the interest--I've gotten a few off-list folks that came out
of the woodwork as well as some folks I had already contacted. Given
the numbers and diversity of folks' locations, I may have to get more
organized about this.
Joel and I usually have been playing it by ear--our latest session was
this afternoon because I had taken a day off. One thing we learned
(which I somewhat knew already)--I don't envy Tom's job in finding
decafs. I've yet to find a decaf sample from an importer that has been
worthy, in around a dozen tries so far. I've had much better success
with the hi-test. Such is life--back to roasting and cupping samples
and roasting for drinking.
Life's tough, I tell ya. ;)
Back to the topic--I'll email all the folks who contacted me before I
head out on vacation next weekend with some more info and some ideas.
Thanks again for all your interest, and please, if anyone on the list is
coming to DC, feel free to drop me a line ahead of time. I'm always up
for coffee and conversation.
