Topic: OT Steel Cut Oats (was Stovetop nice even (4 msgs / 100 lines)
1) From: miKe mcKoffee
Yup, heard of Bob's Red Mill and exactly what we 'et with side of toasted
apple strudel bread.
Thought the adding watering and simmering right after roast would be a fun
hook:-)
FWIW we had a fairly lengthy OT 'oat' thread a few years back. Pan roasting
the steel cut oats before cooking does remind me of pan roasting coffee,
rather different roast smell though and don't have to deal with chaff! But I
don't pan roast coffee with butter added:-) "Brewing" the oats wise while
some like to simmer 'em in milk or half milk I prefer all water, let's the
roasted nutty flavor come through fully. Guess it's similar to some people
like adding milk to their coffee, to each their own taste preference.

I remember that one...started out with grinder cleaning if I remember
correctly. Then it went astray.

The Hell, you say?
Maybe I hijacked it, but I sure learned from the mail run. I favor the
interchange of ideas.
Bob's* Red Mill products are g-r-r-r-eat, and they're proud of 'em, too.
*[Real Name.]
I got a 35# bag of Nebraska whole grain organic oats. I get steel cut oats
(or wheat) from my blender- with the steel blade. So, they're steel cut.
Bob's* costs $2 + for a pound of the steel cut Oats at the Vitamin Cottage
The bag of bulk oats cost about $14 at Vitamin Cottage. The Hard Red winter
wheat was $9 for the same quantity, and it's nearly gone.

Gotta meet you some day.

Having a crappy day, part of a crappy year. Ever have a day when nothing
goes right? That is my life lately.
