Topic: Bad vacation coffee OR why I've stopped going to (4 msgs / 80 lines)
1) From: sci
I have been ripped off too many times. We all know we can make a top notch
cup of coffee that shames nearly every coffee shop, at least I can beat any
shop within 20 miles of my house.
SO, I bought two Zojirushi Tough Slim briefcase bottles. THese things are
killer! After 27 hours, the coffee was a still drinkable 125F. Amazing. I
didn't even preheat them. And after 27 hours, my homeroast tastes better
than the coffee shop's.
So, now I only go to a shop for social purposes, and then I might order a
juice.
I simply can't bring myself to pay $2 for a cup of swill anymore.
So call me spoiled, but SM's Golocha C+, AP'd into my Zoji just can't be
matched by a coffee shop that wants to make $$ and stay in business.
FWIW,
Ivan

Yesterday morning my alarm clock went off a little earlier than normal,
popped me right out of REM sleep. Ugh. I was supposed to go to breakfast
with a friend. First I was gonna make a cup of Kenyan to get me up. But at
that moment I decided that the extra sleep would be preferred, so I slept
for an extra 30 minutes (cutting into showering time, too). Anyway, knew
that the diner we'd be going to has inoffensive coffee, so wound up drinking
2 cups of drip yesterday. Nothing great, but a mild cup... first time I've
done that in months.
I know, start deducting the CSA points... A man who doesn't even know how
to sacrifice sleep for coffee...sheesh!

4) From: Jim Gundlach
Since I had the absolutely wonderful experience at Monmouth in London,
I have decided that I will work at trying to get coffee shops in areas
that I live or visit to improve. I am doing this by visiting coffee
shops that have favorable reviews in the yahoo yellow pages and adding
a review that lets the coffee shop owner know some specific things
they can do to improve. A couple of days ago I visited Aroma's in
Huntsville, Alabama and I left this review:
http://local.yahoo.com/details?id(702426&fr=ypsrpIn the reviews I am not interested in doing a complete and thorough
review, that is beyond me, but pointing out some things they can do
relatively easily that will give their customers a better coffee
experience. My aim is to try to help the coffee shops that have
indicated an interest selling good coffee to do a little better one or
two steps at a time.
