Don't forget the role of the media, and in particular, "health
journalism". Articles that scare people about cholesterol get a lot of
attention. Hence, research showing that some components of coffee
might alter one's lipid profile gets picked up by the mainstream press
and distorted into a scare story about how you'd better throw out your
French press before you die of a heart attack.
