Anybody notice that Tom has grown a beard.
I'm also torn between 'sexy girl coffee calendar" and 'obsene cats' as my
favorite off(?) topic photo.

that's a beard of sheer laziness ...and once it grows a bit it
becomes more of a chore to get the thing off! that's what having a 15
month old can do to you!

Whens the last time you got to do that?

My face has not been seen since 1976. Started a beard in 1973,
shaved once in '76. Then the cute young secretary at work said "you
look awful!" Haven't shaved since then. My wife has never seen my
chin.

I had to grow mine for a madrigal performance 29 years ago. Shaved it off
once for about a month. Thats the only time my wife or son ever saw me
without it. Also I think the son was too young to remember.

I didn't know I had so much company! I grew my beard shortly after going to
college. Then, for a reason I don't remember - probably my girlfriend, I
shaved it off for a few weeks. It was the middle of winter and my face got
cold! I grew it back and have had it since. Jeez, I feel old. That was 30
years ago. Now where did that girlfriend go?

I had a friend once who got his Ph.D in Physics before his 21 st
birthday. He grew a beard when he started teaching since most of his
Grad students were older than he was. At 50 he shaved it off and was
shocked to see a 50 year old man staring him back in the face from the
bathroom mirror. He immediately regrew the beard.

Hey, don't you guys feel bad. It's been thirty five years since I dropped
out of art
school - entered this community college (where I'm still attending) four
years ago -
and I still don't have my Associates.
The way I figure, by the time I get my Bachelors degree, I'll be retirement
age... and
a Masters... or more... well, it seems I'll be a student forever.
Funny thing, through all these years, I'm still the kid in fourth grade who
has her friends
waiting (until the math assignment is finished, so we can ride our bikes
home for lunch -
boy, those were the days - getting to go home for lunch!!)
Today I sit in class, dreaming of going home for a cup of Kenyan AA - which
I *NAILED* in
my roast this time, thank you very much!!!

I still have that dream, I finished undergraduate work back in

This morning I'm drinking the Yemen Mokha Sana'ani with three days
rest on it. Roasted more to City than Full City as Tom recommends but
still a complex cup. I think it is likely to improve with a couple
more days rest.

Got you all beat. I was a High School drop out. Went to college at
night and graduated when I was 30. Finished my required high school
courses in College but did not receive college credits for them.
Instead of credit I was given a paper and told to bring it back to my
High School. The High School then would issue me a Diploma. I never
bothered with it since I knew I would be getting my degree soon. Went
on to get my MS at 32 and finally my PhD. at age 46. However
officially I am still a High School drop out. I retired as a college
Professor at age 65.

21) From: Sandy Andina
I hear it afflicts mostly those who are academic achievers--my husband
has it at least once a week. The way it usually ends for me is--and it
usually takes place in high school or college--is that I realize I
don't need a second high school diploma or BA because I already have a
J.D. degree and then I wake up. Only once or twice has it concerned
graduate or law post-grad school, and I realize that an MA or LLM is
not necessary for me, and then wake up.
Another recurring dream is that I am on a vacation and the return
flight home is in a very few hours, and I haven't fully packed yet.
The more I pack, the more remains to be packed; if I do get packed
and to the airport, there's always some hangup getting to the gate on
time (strangely, it has never involved the TSA lines). Or I am about
to embark on an international (Europe or Asia) trip and I suddenly
realize I don't have a valid passport--usually find this out in the
shuttle bus with my tour group before we reach the terminal. (After
years of having that dream, that actually happened to me in '05 going
to Montreal--United wasn't going to issue me a boarding pass out of
O'Hare till I had my birth certificate and expired passport faxed to
the ticket counter; on the way home, the INS agent in Montreal wasn't
going to accept that plus driver's license and voter registration card
until I pleaded with her and agreed to be met by US Marshals at the
jetway at O'Hare should my information not check out. Landed without
seeing any Marshals--so either she didn't call or my citizenship info
checked out. Next day I applied for a passport. Until then, just my
driver's license had been enough to get me back across the border from
Canada).

How very interesting. I used to have that dream regularly......Here it
was, final exam time and how in the name of God had I completely forgotten
that I had signed up for class X and apparently had never attended!!?? Or
the other familiar one to me: I've got this important meeting with
important people (their exact importance to me isn't ever clear) but I can't
find out where the meeting is being held OR I can't find my notes on what I
was going to say! What a relief to wake up and realize it was only a dream.
Don't guess I've had one of those in years now (been retired 7 yrs) but I
can still remember them vividly. Glad to find out they are so common an
experience.

Barry, that's the best story I've heard about education in a long time! It's
in my nature to try to buck the system - even 'homeschooled' my kids for
awhile (translated: take them to the library with boxes & let them read,
read, read to their hearts' content). Then having four kids at home started
to drive me nuts, so I put them back in school.
That experience helped give them a love of learning - rather than just
jumping through the hoops.
Pondering all of this as I sip my half Kenya AA something or other, and half
decaf mix of four leftover decaf somethings or other. Brewed in my new/old
eBay Chemex (love it!)
This brew isn't great - should have gone for all Kenyan. That one (two
actually) I nailed this time.
