Hey all. Ok, so I found a BM at a thrift store, an older DAK "auto bakery" that looks like R2D2. I checked the archives and I've seen that a couple folks here have used the DAK. Ok, so here's the problem. The agitator kept getting beans stuck under it and popping loose. I was roasting a Mandheling, which may be flatter... I roasted a Kenyan peaberry and a Colombian decaf first. No problem with the agitator. But the agitator popped up probably 4 times as I tried to troubleshoot... Any suggestions on what I can do to make the DAK work for the flatter bean? I hope someone has a suggestion. The only think I know folks have done is to shave/cut enough off the bottom edge of the agitator so that it clears the beans. I guess that all the action in the bread pan keeps the beans moving enough even if the stirring part is passing over the bottom in this way. I'm assuming you don't have a big investment in the machine, so it can't hurt to try. v Bill wrote: <Snip> Homeroast mailing list Homeroasthttp://www.homeroasting.com/gallery/main.php?g2_itemIdx20">http://lists.sweetmariascoffee.com/listinfo.cgi/homeroast-sweetmariascoffee.comHomeroast community pictures 9upload yours!) :http://www.homeroasting.com/gallery/main.php?g2_itemIdx20 |
Bill,
I am not sure I am thinking about the DAK, I bot and
disassembled five different bread machines at the same time, but one
of them would catch beans between the end of the agitator and the side
of the squarish container. I cut about a quarter of an inch of the
end and it worked fine.

the flatness of the sumatrans is slipping under the agitator. This is an older model with a hole in the bottom of the pan (gotta dump the entire machine because beans come out of the bottom). anyway, the flat beans are slipping under the agitator arm into the hole, and then the agitator as it spins pops off of the 'agitator driver' the circular connector to the motor that spins it... I know that RayO had a DAK. Hoping he chimes in on this thread. Appreciate the help Jim and Vicki. bill On Sat, Apr 26, 2008 at 6:48 AM, Jim Gundlach wrote: <Snip> Homeroast mailing list Homeroasthttp://www.homeroasting.com/gallery/main.php?g2_itemIdx20">http://lists.sweetmariascoffee.com/listinfo.cgi/homeroast-sweetmariascoffee.comHomeroast community pictures 9upload yours!) :http://www.homeroasting.com/gallery/main.php?g2_itemIdx20 |
I took a large steel washer & ground out the center until it fits over the shaft. It acts as a barrier and I only have one or two small beans get past it during a roast. I have to watch for it when I dump to cool, but it works like a champ. Also converted my stir crazy to a cooler, instead of the convection oven, it now has a box fan on top. Cools quickly and evenly. ymmv Bob |
Alright, I appreciate the advice on the mod, Bob. Sounds like that would work great. Can I make sure that I have it correct: you place the washer under the agitator, to buffer between the bottom of the BM and the agitator arm? I'm pretty sure that's what you're saying. Thanks for the suggestion. bill On Sat, Apr 26, 2008 at 2:39 PM, Bob wrote: <Snip> Homeroast mailing list Homeroasthttp://www.homeroasting.com/gallery/main.php?g2_itemIdx20">http://lists.sweetmariascoffee.com/listinfo.cgi/homeroast-sweetmariascoffee.comHomeroast community pictures 9upload yours!) :http://www.homeroasting.com/gallery/main.php?g2_itemIdx20 |
"...RayO had a DAK." I did, I did, indeed. Fall down, go Bang on the last dough it kneaded, so the picture window dome top is wiped out. I had the hope of reflashing the firmware to turn the whole thing into a coffee roaster. Until it walked off the counter and Keerash! The duct is easy to modify for the installation of a finned air heater, directed down on the beans, and a flap can be added to the agitator arm to minimize the clearances that catch and mash beans. The biggest thing was going to be the cyclone to vacuum the roasted beans out of the pan after the roast. Dumping the whole thing over to pour out the beans is an obstacle, so I'll still go with the cyclone and a flat spiral agitator. Meanwhile, like Vicki's Sunbeam, the Oster is my ROster. bill ?i had a similar problem with my r2d2 machine. i found the beans getting caught between the end of the aggitator and the wall of the container. i took a hammer and bent out the 4 indents at the bottom only and that fixed it. i took a hammer and swung the hammer with the basket and hit my garage floor this pushed out the indent...hope this helps. i'm 40+ roast in and no problems yet. ?? dave Homeroast mailing list Homeroasthttp://www.homeroasting.com/gallery/main.php?g2_itemIdx20">http://lists.sweetmariascoffee.com/listinfo.cgi/homeroast-sweetmariascoffee.comHomeroast community pictures 9upload yours!) :http://www.homeroasting.com/gallery/main.php?g2_itemIdx20 |
take a hammer and pound out the indentations on the breadpan. problem solved.. or you could cut the agitator. ?? dave Homeroast mailing list Homeroasthttp://www.homeroasting.com/gallery/main.php?g2_itemIdx20">http://lists.sweetmariascoffee.com/listinfo.cgi/homeroast-sweetmariascoffee.comHomeroast community pictures 9upload yours!) :http://www.homeroasting.com/gallery/main.php?g2_itemIdx20 |
