Topic: Portable coffee devices (11 msgs / 173 lines)
1) From: Kevin Cooper
Hello!
Am new to the LIST, and have enjoyed reading the posts. Thanks to Sweet
Maria's for providing a great website and also planting the "coffee beans"
in my head to start me on my journey with home roasting.
I am fairly new to the home roasting world, but I am a Corporate Chef-have
been around food and beverage for over 26 years professionally. I travel
for my company allot! So, I am always looking for different ways to enjoy
my home roasted coffee on the road. Hotel coffee is getting better,
BUT.........
I travel with my little Turkish grinder and usually one of the following
devices: a French Press, Italian Flip Drip, Vietnamese Press, and sometimes
my electric Vesuviana. I stumbled across a new brewer/espresso maker and
ordered it immediately-it is called a *Preva Portable Espresso* Machine??
Has anyone heard of it? There was only one review-which was positive, but
was wondering if anyone had every heard of this model.
It has a pump and it requires a coffee pod....not sure if this is gonna be
good purchase, but the price is right and want to try it out.
Any advice or information would be appreciated!
Cheers,
K. A. Cooper- Green Bay, WI

Even more impressive *looking* is the HandPresso... I haven't used
either one. It too is limited to espresso pods. Might be a good
addition to the travel kit.

I found a forum somewhere on the Preva site. Some responses there
weren't so positive.

It uses pods---need I say more? Blecccch. Stick with your electric
Bialetti or an Aeropress (just don't dilute after pressing) if you
want an espressoid beverage and you don't have a stove on which to use
something smaller like a backpacking moka pot.

I agree with Sandy, I wouldn't step within 10 feet of a pod. That's why I
homeroast! I like the AeroPress for travel. And Sweetmaria's, freshly
roasted of course!!bill

I tasted a demo sample of pod coffee at Costco a couple of months ago.
It wasn't too bad even though served in a paper cup.
You can fold up your own pods with fresh homeroasted coffee and a
piece of filter paper.

Thanks for the feedback! I have not received it yet in the mail, but will
give a review, if anyone is interested.
For now, I travel to Seattle with my Neopolitan Flip Drip. Celebes-FC
roast.
Cheers, and thanks again for the feedback!
