well today is the second anniversary, of when i was notified that the tests were back and i had Pancreatic Cancer. it was already in stage four which meant removal was not an option. this was expected on my part so it was not a shock. i had went from 225 pounds down to 148, and was well on my way to dying. the Doctor had just started me on pancreatic enzyme pills help me with digestion. this helped me stay alive. now at least i could digest most of my food. and began to regain some weight. the prognosis was three to nine months till death, with nothing to lose i started Chemo. i have done some eight different types, with six of them being clinical trials. none of which have done me much if any good, but allowed a lot of data to be gathered. it is all done now i will not be doing any more . the cancer has progressed to the point i now must contend with a condition where fluid builds up in my abdomen. this must be drained daily. so here i am only the second person the doctor has done this with. i am now draining up to three liters a day at home. this is very trying on the body, it is hard to keep up with fluid intake to equal what is goes out. so i want to thank all of you for the give and take, all ideas, opinions expressed on this list it has been some very lively entertainment for me. i am still here and will be for some time, only god knows how long. john t. brown Homeroast mailing list Homeroasthttp://www.homeroasting.com/gallery/main.php?g2_itemIdx20">http://lists.sweetmariascoffee.com/listinfo.cgi/homeroast-sweetmariascoffee.comHomeroast community pictures 9upload yours!) :http://www.homeroasting.com/gallery/main.php?g2_itemIdx20 |
John, John, Thank you for the update and sharing. I have a good friend who is fighting cancer as well and was having to deal with the fluid draining issue you mention. John, I am so happy to hear you have been able to hang on. Keep strong friend. It hurts to hear your news. My mom was diagnosed with Pancreatic Cancer on Feb 6, 2008 and she died March 12. We're burying her on Mother's Day. I only say this to let you know my thoughts and prayers are with you and your family. All the best. John H. |

John You know my heart and prayers are with you on this one. As I remember you live alone. Now that is hard core. I also remember you are a man of great stories. Care to share some of your favorites? They would sure be a OT I would enjoy reading. A good hunting trip one that you could mention coffee in or? I should also take this moment to thank you for how nice and sharp my knifes are now. John, I think it is wonderful that you allowed yourself to be a human "guinea pig". A part of you will live on in whatever is learned through that testing. John, Thank you for any stories you might be willing to share. Thank you also, for willing to go through the chemo treatments for the data that might help others. As a cancer survivor myself, I am very grateful for all those who shared the data that helped me survive the first cancer and, perhaps, the next. I will remember you sacrifice and that will drive my decision when the next cancer happens. When the surgeon told me that my cancer was malignant, my comment to him was: "Well, now I know what will kill me." His response was: "Not this time, but the next time will occur and that may be the killer." Again, please share some stories about whatever suits you. -- Jim in Skull Valley Homeroast mailing list Homeroasthttp://www.homeroasting.com/gallery/main.php?g2_itemIdx20">http://lists.sweetmariascoffee.com/listinfo.cgi/homeroast-sweetmariascoffee.comHomeroast community pictures 9upload yours!) :http://www.homeroasting.com/gallery/main.php?g2_itemIdx20 |

John, A bittersweet anniversary, that's for sure! A good friend and backpacking buddy was diagnosed in Sept 2003. Given 3 months, he lived for 3 years. He died December 2006. He was good until September 2006, and then it just became awful. Know that you are in my thoughts and prayers. I especially appreciate your good humor, your kindness, and your goodness to us all. John, I don't know you except from the posts I've read here, and being new around here that's not nearly enough. However, I'll put you in my prayers, I hope you don't mind (and I hope that 'prayer' isn't a dirty word around here, lol). I have a friend who has a failed liver and she's also dealing with fluid issues, so I have a (albeit small) idea of what you are talking about. -- Gary F.
